Overview:
Abu Dhabi's General Directorate of Customs secured the top prize at the seventh Gulf Cooperation Council Digital Government Awards, held in Bahrain, for its "Hidden Customs System" — marking the only UAE federal agency to reach "winner" status in the 2026 cycle. The recognition underscores the emirate's push toward a world-class government digital infrastructure aligned with its broader technology modernization strategy.
Details:
The customs authority's award reflects advances in smart customs services and institutional digital excellence across the GCC region. Abu Dhabi Customs was the sole winner-level honoree among all UAE federal entities participating in the awards program, distinguishing its performance in digital transformation and innovative governance models.
Separately, the Real Estate Regulatory Authority of Ajman is promoting the emirate's property sector at the UAE Property Grand Expo in Hyderabad, India, from October 31 to November 1, showcasing investment opportunities and successful practices to international developers and investors. The participation aims to highlight Ajman's real estate fundamentals and attract foreign capital to the market.
The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority launched a digital government maturity index during a workshop for digital transformation leaders in federal entities. The initiative reviewed assessment methodologies, global standards updates, and success stories across agencies, with sessions on continuous improvement opportunities and shared best practices to strengthen UAE rankings in global digital indices.
Outlook:
Investors should track how Abu Dhabi's digital government initiatives translate into operational efficiency gains and cost savings across federal entities. The expansion of similar maturity metrics and awards programs signals intent to sustain competitive advantage in government technology adoption across the region.
