Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed in an interview with Yonhap News Agency, published on Monday, that South Korea could become a partner in developing Turkey's planned Sinop nuclear power plant.
Erdoğan said Turkey is assessing the technical and economic conditions of the Black Sea project with the state-owned Korea Electric Power Corporation.
He noted that Ankara will consider financing, electricity costs, and the project's benefits to the Turkish economy before selecting a partner.
In his interview with Yonhap, Erdoğan also identified defense, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and robotics as potential areas of cooperation, calling for increased South Korean investment and joint production in Turkey.
He said the two countries are working toward a bilateral trade target of $15 billion, while also urging efforts to address the trade imbalance on South Korea's side.
He also called on South Korean companies to participate in Turkish transportation and logistics projects connecting Asia and Europe.
Erdoğan is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on Monday for a three-day state visit, marking his first trip to South Korea since 2018.
The presidential office in Seoul stated that he will hold a summit with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday.
